On the fateful day of December 29, 1845, Texas was born. It’s home of some of the most beautiful historic sites in the country, both natural and man-made. With Texas being the largest state in the contiguous US, you can only imagine the list of possible destinations to visit. Today, we’re going to be super-condensing this list to the top 5 places to visit in Texas.
1st – At the top of our list, we chose Big Bend national Park, located in West Texas. Big Bend national Park is home to more than 2,000 different species of wildlife! Being in the middle of the Chihuahuan Desert, the park allows a beautiful night sky, filled with stars. Big Bend National park is also home to the sheer peak known as Casa Grande, and the great chasmic canyon, Santa Elena. Test your hiking skills and see if you can make it through this expedition of a park!
2nd – Coming in second, we chose the Gulf Coast. All along this 367-mile coastline lies hundreds of different fun activities. At Padre Island National Seashore, you can watch baby sea turtles be released into the wild. The National Park Service releases over 1,000 of them into the sea throughout a week! Typically, the hatchling releases take place usually in early August, I can’t wait! The Gulf coast is also home to plenty of shops, and there’s never a bad time to catch a wave.
3rd – Thirdly, we chose the USS Lexington (CV-16), a World War II aircraft carrier in Corpus Christi, (also located on the Gulf Coast). This legendary carrier nicknamed “The Blue Ghost”, was built during World War II for the United States Navy in 1940. The ship was the fifth to be named in honor of the Revolutionary War Battle of Lexington. “The Blue Ghost” was decommissioned on November 8th, of 1991. The ship was docked in Corpus Christi a year later, made into a museum, and has been there since.
4th – Fourth, we chose the Space Center of Houston. FUN FACT: The first word spoken on the moon was “Houston”! Opened on October 16th, 1992, it is the leading science and space learning center. It hosts more than 1 million visitors annually, so you can tell it’s quite the attraction! Take a tour on the tram ride, watch a presentation, explore an exhibit, and even meet an astronaut! At the Space Center of Houston, you can do all the above.
5th – At the bottom of the list, although certainly not last, we chose the San Antonio River Walk. Located in San Antonio, The River Walk, or “Paseo Del Rio”, is a network of walkways along the San Antonio River. All along the river are shops, , and restaurants. Whether you chose to take a walk down the river, or even take a boat ride, you’ll be surrounded by beautiful, lush nature.
